With root canal treatment it is possible to avoid the loss of the tooth.
A timely visit can be essential to help you achieve optimal dental health and to have your teeth checked every six months.
What happens after your treatment?
After the treatment your tooth may be sensitive for a few days, but any discomfort can usually be relieved with anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen. It will be explained to you by your dentist that you should avoid chewing on that tooth until the permanent filling is placed, which can be done later. Depending on how damaged the tooth was originally, you may or may not need a full crown. The dentist will discuss those options with you.
Dental Fillings
Dental filling is a procedure for the removal of a cavity and filling with tooth coloured material . First, the cavity caused by the caries is cleaned and an etching is made on the enamel and an adhesive is applied that will serve to support the resin dental filling material. This is layered and cured by halogen light. The filling material will gradually be molded in order to return the tooth to its original shape and, thus, regain its functionality. The process ends by polishing the dental filling to give it shine.
It is possible that after the filling has been carried out, the patient feels sensitivity to very hot or very cold foods. Although some type of varnish can be applied to avoid this, in the event that the problem persists.
Different types of dental filling are there:
Glass Ionomer Filling: Widely used cements which releases fluoride ions at around 1 percent that will effectively kill any cariogenic bacteria still present in the outer perimeter of a carious lesion. Glass ionomer cements protect the margins of a restoration from recurrent caries and it is white in colour.
Resin: This is the most used filling since they allow recovering the original appearance of the tooth, and also its color. The materials that are used today are composite. These composites are also used in making tooth defects like size, gap etc.. and also discoloration.
Even though the filling has its own duration, it highly depends on the habit of the patient. It is important to undergo annual check-ups so that the dentist can examine each of your fillings.
Prosthodontics – Dentures

If you are deciding on a denture, then fillings, extractions and cleanings may be necessary . It is important to have your mouth in perfect condition before performing the procedure.
However, it is usually like this:
- First, the condition of your mouth will be evaluated and then plan the treatment to be continued.
- The technician will create your dentures according to molds of your mouth provided by the dentist.
- Once it is done, it will be tested to see if they fit your oral structure. The final denture is made in the laboratory once both parties agree on the final trial denture. This agreement will occur once you are satisfied with the fit and appearance of your mouth.
- Final adjustments may be necessary, but usually at least four to five visits to the dentist are required to obtain the final denture.
- Once the denture is obtained, it is ready to fix. If you feel any discomfort, go to your dentist, he will make the necessary adjustments so that you feel that your teeth adapt perfectly to you.
